Terms of use: Story Classrooms
DRAFT 2026-10-19, for legal review. Not yet in force.
These terms are between [COMPANY] ("we") and the teacher or school using Story Classrooms ("you"). Last updated: [DATE].
1. The service
Story Classrooms gives a teacher a class page (with its own link and QR code) where students plan, write or tell, and send stories and other writing, and a dashboard where the teacher reads the work, grades it and shares feedback. Schools get a counts-only view of their classrooms. These terms cover the Story Warriors brand; JotJay has its own terms on its own site.
2. Who can use it
- Teachers and other school staff, aged 18 or older, using it for their classes.
- Students use it through their teacher's class page, with a classroom account they make (a made-up writing name and a password, no email), with the school's or teacher's permission. Students do not agree to these terms; their teacher and school are responsible for their use.
- When you join through your school's invitation link, your school's agreement with us also applies, and it wins if the two differ.
3. Plans and payment
- Schools: seat-based plans (Small 1 to 10 teachers, Medium 11 to 25, Large 26 to 50, Custom 51+), one seat per active teacher. Prices, term and invoicing are set in the school's quote or agreement. A school's plan runs for one school year (ending June 30), when its student work is deleted. [DECIDE: renewal and refunds.]
- Individual teachers (JotJay, formerly Story Ninjas): free to start with limits (the free start); a purchase is the full version, and its order number is checked at signup or in Settings. [DECIDE: annual renewal and what happens on expiry.]
- Taxes (GST/HST/PST) are added where they apply.
4. Your account
Keep your password to yourself and use one that's at least 10 characters. Tell us at [SUPPORT CONTACT] if you think someone else has used your account. You're responsible for what happens in your account.
- Use the service only for teaching. Ask students for their first name and last initial only, and remind them not to put full names, addresses or other personal details in their work.
- Follow your school's and board's rules on student information and on parental consent.
- Add a parent's or guardian's email address only when they have agreed to get emails from you about their child's writing, only for your own students, and remove it when asked.
- You can delete any piece of student work at any time. Otherwise it is deleted after the school year ends (June 30), or on the date your school sets. Download anything you need to keep (grades CSV) before then; you'll get a reminder two weeks ahead.
- We handle student information as described in the privacy notice and, for schools and boards, the data agreement.
6. Acceptable use
Don't use Story Classrooms to post anything unlawful, hateful or harmful to students; to try to get into anyone else's classroom or guess story codes; to overload or attack the service; or to copy the service or resell it.
7. Content
- Students and teachers own what they write. You give us only the permission we need to store, show and send it as part of the service.
- Our materials (the pages, artwork and books unlocked as rewards) belong to us or our licensors. Reward books are for the student's personal reading.
8. Availability and changes
We work to keep Story Classrooms available during the school day but can't promise it will never be interrupted. We may change or improve features; if a change takes away something you rely on, we'll tell you ahead of time. We'll give at least 30 days' notice of changes to these terms by email.
9. Ending
You can stop using Story Classrooms at any time and ask us to close your account (see the privacy notice). We may suspend an account that breaks these terms, after telling you why where we can. When a school's plan ends, its teachers' classrooms close and student work is deleted on its normal date, or sooner if the school asks. [DECIDE: grace period for downloads.]
10. Liability
[LAWYER: standard disclaimer and limitation of liability, capped at fees paid in the last 12 months; carve-outs for privacy breaches caused by our negligence may be required by boards.]
11. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of [PROVINCE] and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.

Draft · for lawyer review
Terms of service: JotJay
DRAFT 2026-10-26, for lawyer review. Not yet in force. Every highlighted blank must be filled, and every [DECIDE] settled, before this is published as final.
These terms are between [COMPANY], [ADDRESS] ("JotJay", "we") and the teacher or school using JotJay ("you"). Story Warriors has its own terms on its own site. Last updated: [DATE].
1. The service
JotJay is a writing classroom for Canadian schools. A teacher gets class pages (each with its own link and QR code) where students plan, write or speak, and send their writing, and a dashboard to plan the year, use our premade lessons, read the work, see how it was written, grade it and give feedback. Schools get a view of their teachers and classes with totals, never student work.
2. Who can use it
- Teachers and other school staff, aged 18 or older, using JotJay for their classes.
- Students use JotJay through their teacher's class page, with an account they make (a made-up writing name and a password, no email), with the school's or teacher's permission. Students do not agree to these terms; their teacher and school are responsible for their use.
- If you sign up on your own, you confirm that your school allows you to use JotJay with your students, or that you will ask before you do.
- When you join through your school (an invitation, or your school email address), your school's agreement with us also applies, and it wins if the two differ.
- By creating an account you agree to these terms and to how we handle information as described in the privacy policy (/privacy).
3. Plans and payment
- Free start (teachers on their own): free, with limits: one class, up to 40 students, 3 assignments live on the class page at a time, plan the whole year, no archiving. We may change the free start's limits with notice; work already in your class stays.
- Teacher subscription: the full version for one teacher, for the period you bought. Price: [PRICE]. [DECIDE: renewal, cancellation, refunds, and what happens when it ends (back to the free start, with all work kept, is what the code does now).]
- Schools: seat-based plans, one seat per active teacher. Prices, term and invoicing are set in the school's quote or agreement. A school's plan runs for one school year (ending June 30). [DECIDE: renewal and refunds.]
- Joining a school moves your classes, student accounts and work into the school's plan; nothing is lost.
- Prices are in Canadian dollars. Taxes (GST/HST/PST) are added where they apply.
4. Your account
Keep your password to yourself and use one that's at least 10 characters. Tell us at support@jotjay.com if you think someone else has used your account. You're responsible for what happens in your account.
- Use JotJay only for teaching. Ask students for their first name and last initial only, and remind them not to put full names, addresses or other personal details in their writing.
- Follow your school's and board's rules on student information and on parental consent.
- JotJay shows teachers facts about how a piece was written (typed, pasted, spoken, and how that compares with the student's own other pieces). These are not proof that a student used AI or copied, and you agree not to treat them as proof on their own; use them to start a conversation with the student.
- You can delete any piece of student work at any time. Otherwise it is deleted after the school year ends (June 30), or on the date your school sets. Download anything you need to keep (grades) before then; you'll get a reminder two weeks ahead.
- We handle student information as described in the privacy policy and, for schools and boards, the data agreement.
6. Acceptable use

7. Content
- Students and teachers own what they write. You give us only the permission we need to store, show, read aloud and send it as part of the service.
- Our materials (the app, the premade lessons and lesson packs, their audio, and our artwork) belong to us or our licensors. You may use them with your own classes while you use JotJay, and print worksheets for those classes; you may not republish or sell them.
8. Availability and changes
We work to keep JotJay available during the school day but can't promise it will never be interrupted. We may change or improve features; if a change takes away something you rely on, we'll tell you ahead of time. We'll give at least 30 days' notice of changes to these terms by email.
9. Ending
You can stop using JotJay at any time and close your account in Settings → Delete my classroom (see the privacy policy). We may suspend an account that breaks these terms, after telling you why where we can. When a school's plan ends, its teachers' classes close and student work is deleted on its normal date, or sooner if the school asks. [DECIDE: grace period for downloads.]
